Navigation: The visitor comes to your web site and must steer a course by weaving through your web pages to find what they are looking for.

Using Icons on the web has gone too far: A few years back web designers started to use icons as web navigation links. At first this seemed to be a good idea...

The next topic, what questions you need to answer when creating a web site, is broken down into five different subtopics.

  1. Who is my target audience?
  2. What type of web sites work well and why?
  3. What is the purpose of my web site?
  4. How big is my site going to be?
  5. What is the final goal of the web site?

1) Who is my target audience?: What type of target audience do you have? Is it a broad reaching audience or a narrow audience?

2) What type of web sites work well and why?: It's important to go and look at other web sites that are similar in content as the one you are building.

3) What is the purpose of my web site?: figure out what the purpose of your web site is going to be. Not all sites are commerce sites.

4) How big is my site going to be?:Sites that implement what I like to call "we will just add links as we go method" start out fine, but as they get bigger their navigation system usually becomes a usability nightmare.

5) What is the final goal of the web site?: When designing your site be user-centric. Keep in mind the goals of the visitor.
