Tiebreaker Xplained
tie-break-er (tye-bray-kur) noun A special or extra game played to decide a tie game
Lets say I have two readers send me in Bobby Labonte to win the race. One readers tiebreaker choice is Jeremy Mayfield and the other reader chose Jeff Gordon as the tiebreaker. Labonte wins the race so I have a tie between two readers. The final results show Gordon finishing 6th and Mayfield 10th. So since Gordon finished higher than Mayfield the reader with Labonte & Gordon as their choices would win. Hope this helps explain it all.

Good Luck... Winner or winners will be posted next week.

This weeks question is
OK, So the Winston Cup Teams have the weekend off. And I was just wondering. (Bobbie's gonna kill me for this one :)))

Should Bobbie give the NASCAR Rocks staff the weekend off as well?

A. NO!! I want my NASCAR Rocks
Ummm, Why did I think of Dire Straits when I typed that? Sing along people. "I want my NASCAR ROCKS" Kinda catchy Huh?

B. Yes!! You need a break too
This doesn't mean going to MickyD's either. So which is it Dire Straits or a party at Bobbie's house?

Last weeks question was?

Do You Feel That The NASCAR Winston Cup Points System Needs Changing?

A. Yes 24%

B. No 50%

C. Undecided 26%

Total votes cast = 104

The main reason I asked this question is that there are rumors going around that NASCAR is thinking about changing the current point system. I just wanted to get a feel of what you thought about the current point system and does it need changing? I received a few e-mails from some of you saying that you really don't understand how the current system works. I also discovered that I was also GUILTY of not really understanding it either. So I went and found this for ya'll. Hope it helps....

The NASCAR Winston Cup Points System

Each driver who competes in a NASCAR Winston Cup race is awarded points according to the following descending scale. Each driver that leads a lap during the race is awarded 5 bonus points. The driver that leads the most laps is awarded an additional 5 bonus points.

Season Awards and Money The Winston Cup Leader Bonus is a competition that places emphasis on winning AND leading the Winston Cup points standings. The Winston Cup Leader Bonus pays $10,000 to a driver who wins a race and leads the Winston Cup points at the conclusion of that race. When there is no such winner, the money will roll over to the next race. Bonus payoffs of six figures are possible. In the event that the Winston Cup champion does not win the final race of the season, the remaining money from the Winston Cup Leader Bonus will be divided incrementally among the top 10 finishers in the final Winston Cup points standings. That way, the money in the Winston Cup Leader Bonus will be paid in full at season's end.

This is something new that I have decided to try out. I will put a few "Did You Knows" in here every once in a while If you like the idea of "Did You Knows" and have a comment or have a "Did You Know" you would like to share please send them here ~~> RacinThe2

Did you know? That Dave Marcis hasn't had a top 5 finish since Aug 10, 1987. Where he finished 3rd at Watkins Glen

Did you know? That Jeff Burton's win at Las Vegas this year was Fords 500th Winston Cup / Grand National victory

Did you know? That Bobby Allison, and Tim Richmond are the only drivers to win three in a row at Pocono

Did you know? That Rusty Wallace's third-place finish in the Pepsi 400 was his best ever in a restrictor-plate race.

========<><><><><><><>========

Well, that's it from me for this issue.
Wishing you all a Racin week.
And may the NASCAR GODS be with you.
Dave

Engine builder Ernie Elliott, Bill's brother, who builds Ford engines for the #'s 94, 11 and 9 teams, will supposedly build Dodge engines in 2001 for the Ganassi Cup team (#01(was 42) and #40) and possibly the #92(is now #9) Melling team.

Evernham said a recent three-day testing session at Kentucky Speedway with his Dodge teams achieved those goals and he will now focus on the most important: "We weren't here to go fast," he said. "We wanted to make sure the engine worked and that we had the endurance. Next, we'll work on going fast."

The late Bill France Sr. -- NASCAR's founder and first czar -- used to say his organization worked so well because he could hold his board meetings in a phone booth. But absolute dictatorship has vanished from NASCAR, probably for the worse. Now, NASCAR Chief Operating Officer Mike Helton couldn't carry enough cell phones to handle all the ``input'' he has to hear from special interests -- Detroit, TV networks, individual teams, corporate sponsors ...

Joe Gibbs Racing and Bobby Labonte will be with Interstate Batteries through 2003 (with an option year for 2004) as a for a four-year contract was signed recently. The #18 Joe Gibbs team and Interstate Batteries has been together since the team began in 1992.

Hi, everybody! I hope you had a great weekend! I took four kids to our local speedway to see Tony Stewart race on a dirt track. If you want to try something adventurous, take a carload of kids to a race by yourself! I am still recuperating! LOL Would I do it again? Probably. But not for a VERY long time! If you have a website or homepage you would like to see here, send me the URL using the link above. If you would like to see more links for your favorite driver, send me his name and I will find the best links for ya. Have a great week!
Luv,
Angie

As I too am a List Manager, I will try to get your tag to you within 24-48 hrs ... excluding weekends. Confession time ... I don't know that much about NASCAR so I won't favor a certain driver ... Bummer week! No racing drives me bonkers ... I need that NASCAR fix! I got some great replies this week ... but you picked on Dale Earnhardt, Mike Skinner (he makes it easy, huh?) and Tony Stewart. So lots of repeats.
Let's get right to the Top Ten.

Rock's Top Ten Murphy's Laws of NASCAR

10) If you're in front of Mike Skinner ... you're going for a ride.

9) If it's going to rain ... Tony Stewart is going to win.

8) If it is late in the race, and you are the only thing between Dale Earnhardt and the checkered flag, expect to have your bumper tapped.

7) If Skinner can crash, he will!

6) If there's a car in front of Dale Earnhardt, he knock your rear bumper off, you will go into the wall, poop your pants and cry for your mother, while he moves up into your position.

5) Whatever can happen will happen at the most inopportune moment ... and will usually carry the number 3 on the side or the Earnhardt name!

4) If it is edible, Benny parsons has tried it ... and had seconds!

3) If there's a contender, Mike Skinner will make him crash!

2) If Earnhardt can use his front bumper, he will!

And, Thanks to BUTTPILL for ...

1) If Tony Stewart is leading a race in the Sahara dessert, the skies will open and rain will pour down!

I did have a couple of replies regarding Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace partaking of the new Jeff Gordon Whine (good with any meal) , but I didn't feel like getting any of that *%#@ mail this week ... I love you guys!

I'm making you all NASCAR drivers this week. I need to so you can answer my next Top Ten question! Here goes ...

Signs You Are Going To Have A Bad Race

Need some help? Here's my reply for next week ... so top this! I noticed Mike Skinner adding my car number to the long list on his dash board!

Please send your great answers to...
Signs You Are Going To Have A Bad Race

Looks like Tony Stewart is the new King of the Rain ... but 69.6% voted YES to finish the race in the rain and 30.4% said NO .
This is the closest vote we have had so far.

With all the new race tracks being built in hopes of getting a NASCAR race, the drivers are a little antsy about how they can compete each week with the wear and tear on the equipment, crew members and themselves. What would you think about an "A Class" and a "B Class" of drivers? That would mean every Sunday there would be two NASCAR races in two different cities. I'm not so sure how that would be determined at this time
(maybe a question for a TopTen?) but the top drivers would be in Class A and the new and balance of the other drivers in Class B. What do you think?

Yes! Two Classes of Drivers

No! All Drivers in One Race

As always ... please do not write in the body of the e-mail as I will not open them.
Thanks for all of your participation ... You make this the best NASCAR Newsletter around! See you all after Pocono next week. New winner?

I would like to take a moment to say how wonderful you handle the news letter ... cheers to everyone.
IM so happy that there is a little bit of happiness in the world of NASCAR for once... I think that the Allisons are wonderful for getting back together...
IM heart goes out to the Irwin's..
I think that something should be done with the track.. They need to look at the problem that is there. Two young men were killed in seven weeks. And I don't think that the experiences has anything to do with it. I feel that there is something there and should really be examined very closely...
Now there are two angles in heaven that will watch over everyone when they race ... gone but never forgotten

Hi again. After reading the last newsletter I have a question. Who are these people who have other sources for NASCAR news? I only have the one. You. Your links are great, very informative, and quite entertaining. This I admire as NASCAR is about entertainment. Please keep up the good work and remember little people like me who count on and enjoy the news. I read you are thinking of creating a page. I will use it as a home page if I can technically do it. I would also help if I could but I am just an intermediate user with no skills in creating a web page. If you can think of a job I could do, I would do it.
