Do your soaps have lye in them?
Yes, ALL soap has lye in it. This is what makes soap Soap. The combination of oils, lye and liquid together makes soap, and during this process saponification takes place, changing the chemical form of the lye to a non-caustic state.

Is the lye the same as my grandmother used?
No! Grandma probably made her own lye by putting water through wood ash, this is what they did years ago. Now the lye you buy is controlled for strength, it is still very caustic in it's plain state, but after it has been made into soap and cured it no longer is.

Why do you use goatsmilk in soap?
Goatsmilk contains caprylic acid which aids in the reduction of alkalai in the soap, making it a lower pH.
Having a lower pH assists in making the soap more balanced to your natural skin pH. Goatsmilk is also easily absorbed into the skin, bringing all the natural enzymes and protiens with it.
Why do you think Cleopatra bathed in milk?.. and wouldn't you know it was more than likely goatsmilk.

Do you add glycerin to your soaps?
Glycerin is a by-product of the soap-making process. All handmade soaps retain their natural glycerin. The commercial bars have the glycerin removed for selling to companies for other uses. Therefore having the need to add chemicals to replace the mositurizing capabilites of the soap. Natural handmade soaps are full of the natural glycerin, thus more mositurizing.

Is your soap safe for babies?
Just as safe as commercial soaps are.
I personally would use a non-fragranced soap such as my Cocoa Butter soap for a baby.

Are your soaps hypo-allergenic?
No, I don't have the means to test soap for hypo-allergenic qualities.

Do you add colors to your soaps?
I do add cosmetic grade colorants to some of the soaps. These are the same colorants you would find in cosmetics and are safe on the skin, unless of course you are allergic to make-up type products.

Do you add fragrance to your soaps?
Yes I do on most of them, again these are fragrances that are cosmetic grade and are made for soap-making. I use mainly fragrances from Sweetcakes and BrambleBerry. I don't use much in the way of essential oils as fragrance,
I like the fragrance oils personally.

How are your soaps packaged?
They are band wrapped in a label I make myself. These can contain information on your shop if you make arrangements with me ahead of your order. There are set-up fees involved so you would have to contact me personally.

Why are the bars of soap not exactly the same size or shape?
In handmade soaps it is difficult to get exactly the same pour each time, so some soaps may differ in size but are always at least 3.5 ounces...most of the time they are around 5 ounces.
I also like using a variety of molds.

What is a lotion bar?
Well, it's combined oils and butters that I make and mold into a 2 ounce bar. You use it in place of using lotion. Since lotions contain mostly water, there is alot of waste and lotions don't last long on your skin. The oils I use stay on the skin, it feels a little greasy at first but that feeling goes away in the first    10 or 15 minutes and leaves your skin feeling soft all day.

Do you have gift baskets?
No, Not yet but by the holidays I will have. Please check back.

How long do your soaps last?
As long as you keep them out of the direct stream of water in the shower, they will last almost as long as commercial bars. Don't let them sit in water either. Remember, these soaps are handmade and have all the natural glycerin in them so they are not as hard as a commercial bar.
